Parashurama was the sixth incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. He was the first person to be a saint as well as a warrior; he is also one of the seven chiranjeevis (immortal beings according to Hindu mythology). Parashurama Jayanti is celebrated as his birthday, to honor all he has done for this world.
History
Parashurama is the son of Renuka and Jamadagi, who was a saptarishi. Parashurama was a very important deity who did some notable things to help the world; he cleansed the world of all the kshatriyas twenty one times and was present in both the Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. He was famous for his supreme wrath and also his pureness. He mentored many disciples in his time such as Drona, Karna and Bheeshma and was famous for being a fair teacher.
Celebration
Parashurama is an immortal being who is not prayed to because it is believed that he still lives on earth, which is why he does not have any temples dedicated to him. Hence, Parashurama Jayanti is celebrated in the temples of Lord Vishnu. Many show their devotion by fasting on this day, praying to him and also carrying out processions in his name.
