The beginning of the Universe is the most discussed topic yet not concluded. Ambiguity persists even today no matter how much science has evolved. Conclusions have been derived from only the scriptures available for different religions. In this blog, we will delve into the Creation of the Universe as per Hinduism.
Beginning of the Universe as per Hinduism
According to Hindu Legends, nothing was there in the beginning. All that existed was Param Brahma. It is the supreme belief with no start and no end. It is assumed to be an absolute truth with no descriptions of appearance. It is the divine essence with infinite and indescribable powers. It can be said that Param Brahma is an enduring, self-created and limitless creation. Beyond thoughts and words, the supreme power could create the universe of will.
The Role of Param Brahma and the First Sound OM
Param Brahma fabricated a vibration that produced the first sound, OM. It is the sound that is a merger of all kinds of sound. The first thing that was shaped was the Maha Tattva. The elemental component contained Sattva Guna signifying preserver, Tamas Guna signifying destruction and Rajas Guna denoting the action or creation. The interaction or relationship amongst all these elemental components gave birth to Panch Tattva, the five physical elements that are necessary for the life of all living beings. This is how Air, water, fire, Earth, and ether came into being. The interconnection of all five elements leads to the Environment.

Emergence of Lord Vishnu and Hiranyagarbha
The three Gunas together also formed five senses that are the basics of life and a brain to regulate or control senses. Param Brahma made the water flow all over yet confirmed that nothing could submerge. Everything was in water and so did the Param Brahma. He imagined a divine power unsinkable and floating on water just like a lotus in the pond. Water signifies “Nara entity “and ayana signifies dwelling place. The entity that came into existence was Narayana, also called Lord Vishnu.
Scriptures describe that Param Brahma rooted its seed in the water which initiated the fertilization process. Water assisted in nurturing the seed which gradually led to the formation of an egg. It wasn’t a normal egg with a white shell. It was a dazzling golden egg with an appearance like a ball emitting light. The egg emerged to be the Universe. Vishnu entered into the egg. The egg was holding him like an embryo protecting the baby inside. This is how the word Hiranyagarbha evolved.
Now, Vishnu’s navel led to a fourteen-petal lotus from which the creator of the universe came out. This is how Brahma came into being which planned the second divine power of Param Brahma. He had a garland and a Kamandal and as he emerged from lotus, he was addressed as a Nabhija and Padmayoni. It wasn’t all; he was still in Hiranyagarbha for almost a year. Brahma divided the egg into two, thereby bringing into existence, heaven and the Earth. The two were separated by poles and between them was the sky. This cycle was started by Brahma in which there was birth and death because whatever came into existence was brought to an end by him.
The Birth of the Four Vedas and the Purpose of Existence
A cycle that once started would end and again begin. This is how the interconnected universe came into being. Brahmand emerged and after that, Brahma went into a state of deep meditation and brought the Four Vedas from it. Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. These are the Holy Scriptures that acquaints us with the foundation and purpose of existence.
