Maha Gauri the 8th Manifestation of Parvati:
Mahagauri is the eighth manifestation of goddess Parvati. And she is worshiped on the eighth day of Navratri. According to Hindu mythologies, the Goddess Parvati at the age of sixteen was extremely beautiful. And she was blessed with fair complexion. Endowed with extremely fair complexion and beauty, she was known as Maha Gauri. Because of her fair complexion she is compared with moon, conch and white flower of Kunda.
Iconography of Mahagauri:
Mahagauri is usually depicted with four hands. Three hands holding a trident, lotus, and drum, while the fourth hand in the Vardaan or blessing gesture. The lotus is sometimes replaced with a rosary. Mounted on a white bull, Mahagauri is shown in white clothes.
Legend of Maha Gauri:
Two demons Shumbh and Nishumbh were becoming indispensible. As they were given the boon of being killed by the daughter of Parvati. So as to kill them Shiva turned Mahagauri into Kali or dark complexion.
Mahadev made her skin complexion black by his magic. And he also teased her as Kali.Mahagaurigetagitated by this, and she did severe penance and pleased Brahma to obtain her fair complexion.
Mahagauri succeeded in her penance. And she was advised by Brahma to take bath in Mansarovar River in Himalaya. As she took a bath, her dark skin separated from her.

According to Shiv Purana Maha Gauri was only 8 years old when she started with her penance. She wanted Lord Shiva as her husband. Therefore, it is the rule of worshiping Maha Gauri on the eighth day.
