Most of the stories in Hindu scriptures have been of combat between demons and devas. There have been a few instances of combat between trinity also, which is though rare. In this blog, let us go back to when two of the cosmic Trinity, Brahma and Vishnu competed with each other and know Why Brahma isn’t worshipped. Take a look at Fight between Brahma and Vishnu.
Battle between Brahma and Vishnu
One fine day all devas woke up and heard the news of a quarrel between two of the trinity of the world, Brahma and Vishnu. They all ran to the zone to find the reason and saw two staring and clenching teeth angrily at each other. The irritation between the creator and the protector was increasing with each passing moment. Brahma gripped, and objected, “I came this way and he didn’t greet me”. I am the creator of the world and worthy of the respect. Vishnu said, “You may be the creator, but I am a preserver”. Brahma retaliated by saying that you get ‘to preserve because I create. What would you preserve, if I do not create? You wouldn’t have any role if I do not create.
Vishnu said your creation needs to stand with me. He further added, do you remember how I Slithered Madhu and Kaitabha? The protector is always greater than the creator. What powers do you have to protect your creation?
Lord Vishnu and Brahma Testing Each Other
Brahma said,” I have power”. Enter my body to see what I incorporate. Vishnu said with a sense of shock that your body? Vishnu entered his body and discovered millions of worlds throbbing. He could see all kinds of landforms like oceans, mountains, bays and rivers and all kinds of life forms were living inside him. A biome of awe-inspiring grandeur was living inside him. Embryos were growing and every scene was mesmerizing. He felt there was some mystery hidden in the emptiness and vacuum.
On coming out of the body of Lord Brahma, he said that you encompass everything inside yourself. It is my turn to tell you that what I have inside me or the world inside me. Brahma stepped inside Vishnu and was stunned. He experienced no limits or boundaries; Vishnu was limitless, an intergalactic universe containing millions and millions of galaxies, huge planets and stars. He had present, past and future. Brahma was speechless as his eyes couldn’t see everything. His numerous heads failed to imbibe. Lord Vishnu has not one but infinite numbers of Universe in him.

Devtas' proposal to stop the fight
After witnessing every realm inside Vishnu, Brahma now wanted to come take an exit from Vishnu, but he failed after many attempts. After searching for a long, Brahma took the help of Lotus and emerged out of Vishnu from his naval. The argument continued even after witnessing the vastness and infinity inside each other. They ran out of the arguments now and took out their weapons. As the gathering quavered, a fire sort of power emerged before them. The mysterious fire kept on quavering up and down, far and near which looked with no beginning and end. It was magnetic and the devas witnessing the fire came up with a proposal to put an end to this clash between the two of trinity.
Devas said whoever locate its beginning and end would be hailed. Vishnu was given the task of finding the base of it and Brahma had to find its top. The two readily agreed. Vishnu camouflaged himself as a boar and Brahma became a swan. One went down and down, whereas the other one flew higher and higher. None of the two could even get close to their task. The fire-like pillar kept on stretching from Earth to Sky; both lords were tired and seemed like on the verge of losing. When Brahma decided to get back and in the meantime, he spotted a Ketaki Flower. Creator questioned him, where are you coming from? Ketaki said, I was on the top of this column but slipped.
Brahma's Trick - A Shocking Act
When Brahma heard that the Ketaki flower slipped. The flower in the hand of Brahma was a tool to prove his superiority. Overpowered by his desire to get hailed over Vishnu, he asked the flower to lie to everyone that Brahma picked him from the top. Ketaki Flower said you want me to lie? Brahma got furious and said I am the creator and nobody can disobey me. Do it in exchange for a favour done by me to you. Frightened Ketaki agreed to do the favour.
On returning, they saw Vishnu also coming back. The preserver seemed disappointed and confessed that he couldn’t find the bottom of the pillar-like fire. Brahma smiled and started narrating his false story of reaching the top. He showed the flower as evidence of his victory. Ketaki backed Brahma and joined the false story. Vishnu admitted his defeat.
How Brahma's Lie Was Exposed
All of a sudden, the fire began to crack right from the middle and those who were witnessing the whole incident heard the sound of Om coming out of the fire. The fire turned red as if it was showing its anger. In the burning smoke, everyone saw lord Shiva frowning, wheezing and disconcerted with anger. He screamed and addressed Brahma as a liar. Everyone around went in a state of shock. Shiva rustled, “You found the top of the pillar?" Do you both know what you were trying to find? It is Jyotirlinga, a Shivling.
Brahma was motionless, expressionless, or in a state of shock. He turned wishy-washy and numb. Shiva said, ‘a Jyotirlinga is immortal and everlasting’. It is beyond the parameters of measurement. It is Parambrahman which beyond every corporeal awareness. Shiva informed the two lords how trifling their argument was. Parambrahman is the supreme power of which the trinity, the preserver, creator, and destroyer were just its parts.
Result of the fight between Vishnu and Brahma
Shiva also said that Lord Vishnu accepted his failure, but Brahma, you tried to betray and claimed to win through unfair means. Shiva said,” How can you teach the control over emotions to people when you fear losing? The destroyer said that you will not be worshipped anymore. Shiva said it is not a curse; this is the law of Karma according to which those who tell lies or indulge in wrong deeds have to suffer the consequences of their wrong deeds.
Shiva said to Ketaki Flower, that you were dear to me, but since you were part of a misdeed, I also debar you from worship. No one shall worship you now. As the destroyer gave the verdict to the culprits involved in misdeeds, King Daksha, who was the son of Brahma, gazed at Shiva furiously. This is the reason why Daksha didn’t like Shiva.
