According to Hindu rituals, Holika Dahan or Choti Holi is to be performed during Pradosh Kaal or the time after sunset. The reason behind the ritual is that Bhadra prevails during first half of Purnimasi Tithi and all the good deeds of once should be avoided during the Bhadra Tithi. Hence one is adviced to perform the Holika Dahan after sunset.
Importance
There are various factors that decide the mahurat of Holika Dahan.
The utmost importance is given to Pradosh while Purnimasi Tithi is prevailing and Bhadra is over. If in case the period of Bhadra collapses with Pradosh but the period finishes before midnight, accordingly then Holika Dahan should be performed after Bhadra period ends.
