1. Why Shiva took the avatar of Monkey?
Kesari was king of the Monkey Empire and Anjana was a nymph (Apsara) in Swarg Lok whose king was Indra. Her name was Punjikasthala and she was cursed by Sage Gautam for hiding a secret about Lord Indra and Ahalya from him. The saint cursed her with the birth of a monkey and the mode to get rid of the curse was possible only if she gives birth to Lord Shiva in any form. In her next birth, she took birth as Vanar princess, married the chief of the kingdom of monkeys, and gave birth to Hanuman who was off course a monkey like his parents and an avatar of Shiva. Hanuman's birth freed her from the curse of a saint.
