Goddess Brahmcharini is worshipped on the 2nd day of Navratri. She took the toughest path like penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband
It is believed that Brahmcharini ate flowers and fruits for first 1000 years and vegetables for next 1000 years during her penance period to get lord Shiva. However none of them worked. To add more, she penanced and did tapasya in bad weather condition call it rain, storm, scorching sun or snowfall.Hindu mythology says she was on Bilva leaves while worshipping Lord Shiva for a period of 3000 years.Later she stopped eating leaves too and survived on water. She was called as Aparna during this phase.
While when none of the things worked, she sacrificed herself wishing to have a father in next birth who would consider Lord Shiva as her husband and give the same respect.
