As soon as the demons came to know of this curse and the related situations in which the gods had to fell, they left no chance and tried their best to take advantage of the situation and defeated the gods waging a war against them. When such a situation occurred, all the gods, led by Indra, had no other way than to take refuge at the gracious shelter of Lord Vishnu and told Him all about the curse and their shameful defeat.
After listening to the gods’ wailings, Lord Vishnu asked the gods to make a peace deal with the demons and convince them to churn the ocean together to obtain the nectar or Amrita the source of immortality which they could share with the demons. The gods did exactly what Lord Vishnu suggested them and began to churn the ocean with the help of the demons.
As soon as the nectar or the source of immortality Amrita came out of the ocean in a pot, son of King of gods Jayant in the disguise of a crow snatched the pot containing the nectar and flew away then and there. The demons followed him and then began the war between the gods and the demons just to occupy the pot of Nectar or Amrita. The war lasted for 12 days, during the course of war a few drops from the pot of nectar fell on 4 different places of India: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. During the course of war between the two powers, the Sun, Moon or Chandra, Jupiter or Vrihaspati, and Shani or Saturn protected the pot. However, with an urge to stop the war, Lord Vishnu took the avatar of Mohini, a woman with charming beauty who was supposed to divide the nectar between the gods and the demons.
