About Hartalika Teej
Hartalika teej is the name given due to the legends associated with it. Hartalika is a word made up from two words, 'Harat' and 'Aalika' in which Harat meaning seize or capture whereas Aalika means a female friend. This day is also marked with the blessing of Lord Shiva to Parvati fulfilling her wish to marry him after she toils a lot in the forest and impresses Lord Shiva with her devotedness. Many women observe fast on this day. Statues of lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are made with sand and are worshipped for marital bliss and children. Hartalika Teej is celebrated during the Shukla paksha of the Bhadrapada month.
