Independence Day is a national festival in India and is also a national holiday. Entire nation celebrates Independence Day with great enthusiasm. There is lot of merry making and joy. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on this day unfolded the India Tricolour, which is the National Flag of India. This day is celebrated and on this day tributes are paid to the numerous people who laid their lives for the country. It is because of them that we are breathing an air of freedom today.
Indian Independence came with a huge price which all the countrymen had to pay back at that time in the form of their lives. Numerous freedom fighters laid down their lives for the country. It was a fight against the British Empire for over two centuries. After unending struggle and massive sacrifices of lives the British Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten declared the separation of India and Pakistan on 3rd June 1947. This announcement was made under the terms of the Indian Independence Act 1947.
The Britishers, who initially came to India for trading and business gradually changed their plan and captured Indian territories making India their colony. To attain independence men and women from all over the country laid down their lives. There were many unsung heroes who have sacrificed their lives for a free India. They did not want a free region or a free tribe but a free country. Their motive was to make India free and independent, independent from the clutches of the dictatorial British regime.
