About Navmi Shraddh

Navami Shraddh is the ninth day of pitru Paksha or Mahalay Paksha. Mahalaya Paksha is a sacred fortnight, Fifteen days that are dedicated to the dead ancestors. Naavami Shraddh is preformed for those who died on Navmi Tithi including both Shukla and Krishna Paksha Navami. This Shraddh is also known as Matra Navami. It is believed to be the most suitable say to perform mother's shraddh. This shraddh is basically preformd to pacify the souls of the dead females. Naumi shraddha and Avidhava Shraddha are another names for Navami Shraddha. Avidhva Shraddha name suggests the shraddha of women who passes away before their husband.

Navmi Shraddh falls on the ninth day in Krishna Paksha as per lunar ( Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu & kannad) calendar, and in Ashwin month as per the North Indian Purnament Calender. The ideal place to carry out the shraddh is Sarva loka Soorya Theertham near the Nedumbaram Sri Rama temple on the Thiruvallur – Tirutani route. Also places like Varanasi, Rameshwaraam, Gaya, Rishikesh and Haridwar are auspicious to perform Navami Shraddh.
