Krishna, another and perhaps one of the most popular Avatar of Lord Vishnu had a theatrical life with birth in prison, nurtured by not real parents, killed demons like Putna during infancy only, not married to love of his life, numerous lovers and wives etc. Do you know his life after Mahabharata and how left for heavenly abode? In this blog we emphasize on unveiling story about end of Yadava Dynasty and how Krishna left for Baikuntha Dham.
Under a banyan tree, Krishna was awaiting for his death with his left leg on the right knee finding the right posture and time to go off from this lok. He went in journey of past, i.e. almost 36 years before, wondering about Kurukshetra, the battlefield which had heard in the Bhagwat Gita, turned red with blood shots all over it, and witnessed conspiracies, courage, deception, and families slaughtering each other. Honesty or Dharma won, deception lost and Krishna who was neutral got the curse.
Angry Gandhari cursed Lord Krishna
Fuming Gandhari cursed the Avatar of Vishnu the end of his clans like Gandhari who had lost all her 100 sons, brother, and all relatives supporting Duryodhan. Gandhari Said, “Devaki who lost all her sons in prison would relate with me and understand why I am doing this”. She went on to utter in pain and agony, O Yadava, that just as my clan has been thrashed, so will be yours. The way Kurukshetra is dipped in blood, the banks of the ocean where Dwarka is situated will turn red. Just as my Kingdom is drowned in tears, your Dwarka will be drowned in the ocean.
Krishna got stirred while being under the banyan tree and he heard a faint sound of footsteps. He smiled and said here he comes. A few months ago, the son of Krishna, Samba along with his friends had gone to Pindarika Pilgrimage. They met Sage Durvasa and other sages. To play a prank on Durvasa, Samba got women's clothing and wrapped himself in it. He did the necessary things to look like a pregnant woman.
Asked sage Durvasa, will the lady deliver a female or male baby? Durvasa, the sage with the divine powers instantly came to know the truth and uttered ominous words. He said, “He will give birth to an iron club which shall be the reason for the death of the whole Yadav dynasty”. It didn’t take too long for a club to come out of the body of Samba. Yadavas were frightened and Ugrasena, the ruler of their father ordered it to throw it in the sea. A club that was too powerful to destroy the clan of Yadavas was denied by the sea to swallow. Yadavas reduced the pestle to dust. Just a small and hard piece of pestle was left. They threw the single piece of pestle and dust into the sea. They returned home happily. But a curse is a curse and can’t be nullified. Sea waves accumulated all the dust back to shore and the hard part which couldn’t be grounded was engulfed by a fish.
Krishna was aware of every minute’s development since the Mahabharata. Under the banyan tree, he caressed his flute for the last time and heard all the notes all over again. The sound of footsteps was getting closer and clearer with the time. He again smiled and said he was here.

Yadavas efforts to safeguard themselves and nullify the curse
The Yadavas soon passed a new law, thereby prohibiting, gambling, and the consumption of intoxicated items like alcohol and arms and ammunition. The threat was real and so were the efforts of Yadavas to make the words of Durvasa saint untrue. Only Krishna knew how fruitless these efforts were and only he knew the reasons for the curse due to the past and impact in the upcoming time. Only Krishna knew his plan to annihilate his people who started moving away from Dharma. Only lord Krishna knew that Samba was none other than the lord Shiva himself who incarnated to aid in the destruction of the clan.
When the Yadavas gathered on the Prabhas banks on the anniversary of the Mahabharata war, destruction was imminent. None of the rules made to save the Yadavas from Durvasa's curse were followed that day and people consumed intoxicating beverages. Arguments between Satyaki and Kritavarma led to a huge ruckus where people supporting Kauravas and Pandavas pounced on each other brutally. They didn’t have weapons but hit each other heinously, and gradually none of them was left breathing. Krishna stood helpless and Balram was still trying to convince Krishna that Yadavas were in no danger. Balram said, ‘None of them is carrying weapons and this battle would end up soon’.
Krishna Pointed, ‘One of the Yadavas had taken up something from shore. Balram Reacted, is it reed from that Iron bolt? Krishna nodded. Metals have been waiting for us on the coast. Both brothers stood stunned as Yadavas had knocked the skull of Praduymna with the reed. It seemed as if an unknown anger had taken over the Yadavas who were gradually diminishing in numbers with incurable wounds. Samba and Anirudh were killed and the Yadavas turned into a mass of dead on the shore. The clan destroyed itself and the sin worked.

Balram left for heavenly abode
The sea was almost red and a wave full of blood-drenched Krishna, he saw Balram entering that water. His eyes were closed and from his mouth, a thousand-headed serpent appeared. Sheshnag emerged and left his mortal avatar of Balram. He eventually left for the ocean where he resides with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
Krishna’s departure to Baikuntha Dham in detail
It was time when Krishna could hear a tightened bowstring and he smiled at the one aiming at him. Yes, there was an arrow, which touched his feet, hurting his soul. Vishnu sulked, Brahma winced and Shiva frowned. It looked at Universe was in pain and was about to be soul-free. Krishna opened his eyes and saw Jara, a tribal hunter who had mistakenly shot Krishna. When Jara noticed that he had shot Krishna, he shivered and gasped in terror. He screamed, Vasudev, I will go to hell and I will be cursed and abused always. Krishna said No you will not. Jara couldn’t understand what the almighty was saying as at that very moment only thing he was seeing was bleeding and pain Krishna, the deity.
Krishna said you will not be cursed in the future and Jara kept on seeing the lord strangely. Krishna interrogated him, “Where did you find the piece of rod that you used for making this arrow? Astonished Jara sat behind Krishna and said I found the metal for this arrow in the belly of the fish. Krishna said that it was all pre-destined and designed. The metal was fashioned to kill and destroy the whole Yadava tribe. He convinced him that he hadn’t done anything wrong as he could do nothing to save his own life. Jara asked, “Why me?” Why I am made the cause of your death and started sobbing. Krishna said, “It is you whom I had promised to, Bali”.

The Tale behind Jara's Selection for Death of Krishna
Jara was curious to know why Lord Krishna addressed him as Bali. He didn’t know anything about Bali, but the name wasn’t new.
Krishna said, you were Bali in Treta Yuga and I was Shri Ram Chandra. I killed you with an arrow from behind a tree when you were fighting with Sugriva, your younger brother. Krishna continued that since I killed you from the back and mistakenly, I willed the same to you to kill me unknowingly from the back. The cycle is completed today and the Karmas account is settled. Even lords are bound to pay for their deeds. It is not your misdeed or sin. Jara recalled everything now as Krishna made him recall everything. Jara said, so much has changed from Dwapar Yug to Treta Yug.
Krishna said,” In Dwapar Yug, the battle was against others and now in Treta Yuga, I see men combating with their people. And yet, there are many similarities. Sita was disgraced earlier, Draupadi in this Yuga. I came as Rama earlier, now as Krishna, and in Kali Yuga I will born as Kalki.
Jara asked, “Will I ever get to meet you again?" We shall meet beyond life and death. Krishna closed his eyes. Life that started with the flute has now had an end with an iron rod. Yamuna helped in survival, the sea would now engulf everything. It didn’t take long for the sea to gobble the whole Dwarka. The whole dynasty of Krishna had submerged. The departure of Krishna leads to the end of Dwapar Yug and the beginning of Kali Yug.

Even Gods aren’t spared by the wheel of Karma. This is a mortal world; whoever has taken birth would depart to heavenly abodes. The way of departure depends on the karma of past and present births. Be religious and engage in good deeds.
